HEY!

“Hey who wants to have a little chity-chat-mat-tack-rack-back-fack-nack?” Haf smiled, “Come on, I don’t bite…….unless you taste good that is.”

“You cin find me some flour…. Or cake mix if’n we got any. Then you can sit yer sweet ass down and tell about the scoutin’ trip.” Death said, pulling out a large bowl and as many cookie sheet type items she could find.

Haf looked around, opening and closing everything that could contain something. She eventually found a small bag of flour and cake mix underneath a loose floorboard. Oh, that’s right SHE kept it there for safe keeping. She giggled lightly, handing both items to Death. She then sat on the small table they kept in the “kitchen” criss-cross applesauce style. Her mind was swimming with all the thoughts and things she could tell her, she didn’t know where to start. “What do you want to know first?”

Shiny looked up for the fire that she now had going in the bit, wondering what was taking those girls so long. She decided to check. She stood, dusted herself off, and moved back towards the shack. She burst into the kitchen with a cry of “HEYWHATTERYOUDOIN??” She giggled to herself, then, “What’s taking so long?”

“Makin’ you some sweets bitch!” Death declared as she tore open and envelope of cake mix and dumped into the bowl. “How’s the fire comin’ big boss WO-man?”

Hafnium cringed at the sudden onslaught of noise to invade the small “kitchen”. Her ears still hadn’t completely healed from the water reserve incident. She held a light smirk on her face, that still had some dust and smoke caked on it from the “Big Boom” as she decided she would call it, and giggled, “Damn, and here I thought coming back to camp would mean relaxing it up a butt ton after almost dying in a firey explosion of fire.” She laughed, “Well it is good to know that at least SOME things never change.” She casually threw herself off the table, stumbling slightly once her boot-clad feet hit the ground. She turned, facing away from them, and began to walk outside. Throwing a peace sign over her shoulder, she yawned and said, “Well, I’m going to go see the stars.” She walked out, wrapping her arms around herself to protect from the cold, and sat down on a log near the fire. With a sigh, she streched out her arms to the warmth in much the same manner of a cat. She smiled and looked up, admiring the beauty of the gasious beings millions of years away from her. *Flashback* “Boo come here!” A little girl wearing a yellow, polka-dotted dress, pigtails, and a pair of big, brown glasses layed down in the front lawn of a simple, suburbian home. Her brown eyes stared in awe above her. Her thin, capped lips formed an O, and her brown hair had blades of grass and twig sticking out of it. A red-haired boy looking to be only a few years older than the girl walked out of the garage, grease stains on his hands. He smiled at the small girl, and giggled, “You’ll catch flies Lou. What are you looking at?” The girl sat up at the sound of her brother’s voice, “The stars Bobby! The stars!” “Yeah, what about them?” He sat next to the girl, looking up at the stars with a smirk plastered on his face. “They are so pretty!” The boy laughed at the girl’s wonder. “And? They are there every night, what makes tonight different?” The girl leaned her head on the boys shoulder and yawned, “You’re watching them with me…” The boy smiled down at her, “Come on, Lou, its time for bed.” He lifted the girl up, wrapping an arm around her petite shoulders as she protested against sleeping. The boy smirked playfully, “Last one in the house cleans the dishes tomorrow!” He shoved the tired girl, knocking her off her feet, and ran to the house laughing.  The girl stood, brushing the knees of her pants in a futile attempt to remove the grass stains, before running to the house, “Hey no fair! Wait up! Boo! Boo! Wait! Boo!” *End Flashback* “Boo…”

Rag moves silently from the shadows, he has spent the night watching his sister from afar, waiting for the right moment to make his presence know to her. He watches Lou aka Haf. move across to yard to the fire and sits on a log. Careful not to make a single sound Rag tiptoes up behind her. Her back is to him so she can’t see him. As he nears her, he  realizes that she is stargazing, oh how he remembers the stargazing of his childhood. He and Lou would spend hours looking at the stars as kids and Rag had kept the tradition till this day. He changes his focus to her, my has she grown. No longer is she the defenseless sister he had now Lou had turned into a fledgling young woman, tough as nails just like her brother. Ha! He thinks to himself. He hears her whisper something “Boo…”, now that not a name he has heard in a long time. Rag summons all the inner strength he can and in his usual gruff he says “You need somthin’ Lou?”

Haf turned around so fast that she nearly fell off her seat. “Mother of sand!” She instinctively removed her sharps from her pocket, pointing them at the voice. She gasped, dropping them once she saw who owned it. Sure he was taller, but he had the same freckled face, the same red hair. “You?” She stood up with a smile plastered across her face. It had been so long, oh how she had missed her brother.  6 years. She lifted her arms as if to give him a hug.  6 years?  A look of confusion, of consideration, crossed her happy face as she lowered her arms.  6 years! She frowned and growled in anger. “You need somthin’ Lou?” She picked up her sharps, clenching her fists in anger. “I haven’t seen you in 6 years, and you think, for even a dirt licking second that “You need somthin’ Lou?” would suffice!” She took a step forward, grabbing his arms and shoving him. The skin on skin contact made it that much more real. ” 6 years! 5 of which I spent looking up and down the zones for your sorry ass! Yeah, that’s right I got out of there in less than a year no thanks to you!” She shoved him again, tears streaming down her face. “I asked eveyone I could find! I even thought of going back into the city, risking my hide, just to find you!” She grabbed his arms again, but didn’t shove him this time. In a voice barely above that of a whisper she said, “I-I thought you dead.” She leaned her head on his chest, silently sobbing, before standing up straight and wipping her nose on her sleeve while brushing past her long lost brother. She was halfway back to the shack when she turned back around, a fire in her eyes. “I tell you what Boo, I do need something. I need those 6 years back and filled with my brother!” She turned back around, but didn’t enter the structure before screeching out a hate filled, “And I need a fucking cookie!”

Rag, turning on his heel, simply walks back into the shack. He doesn’t blame his sister for acting the way he did. Six years is a HELL of a long time to be separated from your family. She has to know why though, ” Lou! Goddamn Lou! Eat your cookie and sit the fuck down, and don’t be so quick to judge. Let explain to you what the fuck happened after you got taken, and maybe you’ll under stand where i have been the last 6 years.” He rips a chair from the makeshif dinning set, and sits chest to back on it. “Look, After they took you I was THROWN from the city, left to rot, i joined the killjoys and after six months left. They weren’t the same group they are now. I the left the Zones completely, I believed that you were some puppet of BL/ind. or dead for fuck sakes, I mean shit. Anyway for the past 5 years i have been living on the east coast, there is prosperity there, still places like we remember from long ago, places that have gone untouched by war ad tragedy. I even found love…until she died. After she Gina died i vowed to find you and take you back, dead or alive, and to take revenge on BL/ind. I came back, fucked myself up hard, and was taken in by your wonderful friends, I wouldn’t be walking if it wasn’t for Death. When i found out you were not only alive, and a killjoy, but in this group i was beyond words all i wanted to do was see you.” Rag looks into Haf’s shocked eyes, who is now sitting across the table from him cookie in mouth. “Enough of this anger and sorrow about the past, leave it in the past, I AM HEAR NOW and that is all that matters, Its time You and I start living for a better tomorrow, like mom and dad would have wanted.”

Haf stared down at the floor, cookie in her mouth, listening to what he was saying, but not responding. She suddenly felt like a caged animal, unable to breathe. She silently got up from her seat, grabbed another cookie, and gave Death and Shiny a common look that said, “I don’t want to be followed.” She, then dashed past her brother to the door, not looking back. She ran until the cold and wind made her eyes water, but she didn’t look back. She need space, she needed time. She stopped running eventually finding herself on a cliff overlooking the camp. She turned, searching for something to take her pent up emotions out on. She saw a rattler just a few steps away from her, and raised her foot to crush its puny head, but stopped herself. She didn’t know what kind of life this poor snake lived. Who was she to decide whether or not it could live. She kicked a rock close by with all the force she could muster, and screamed in agony. She turned to the stars, the only thing she had in replacement of her brother all these years. “Why?! After all these years I finally get him back?! WHY?!” She screamed at the top of her lungs, different profanities to the sky. She stopped, collapsing to the ground, tears hitting the ground in a constant stream, “Damnit…” She picked up a nearby rock chucking it as far from herself as she could. “First Jack…………now this.” She layed down, digging a small hole into the dirt beside her. She had spent too many years learning from the best how to keep everyone out, how to be alone even amoungst others. She was taught how to live uncaring of others, now she couldn’t even bring herself to kill a stupid rattler. “Damnit…” She flipped over, staring up at the stars again. A single tear rolled down her cheek, and she whispered for only the wind to hear, “What is happening to me?”

Death shot Shiny a “shut up, this ain’t funny look” and turned back to Haf. “Honestly doll, I wouldn’t have said anythin’ if I wasn’t sure. I have a really good feeling about this.” She took a tentative closer to her friend, placed a hand on each shoulder and looked her dead in the eyes. “All you have to do is talk to him,” she said in a calm and quiet voice (which is only ever possible when she was talking to someone she cared about) “You don’t have to do it now. We can let you rest. If you want, you and I can take a nap together. Better yet, I’ll make cookies. Some crazy guy I met stole a bag of chocolate chips and gave ‘em to me… We can do this on your terms.”

It took her a fair amount of time to respond due to her thoughts going a mile a minute, but she eventually found reason enough in herself to nod in a yes fashion, telling Death that she had understood. She, then smiled a bit, “Cookies sound oiltastic, but I’m not in the right shift to nap right now. I have too much on my thinker.” She turned to Shiny and then looked back at Death, “I’d really like to have a bit of fire side chat. Trade stories, ya know. I’ve been gone for a bit, and I’d like to know what all ya’ll has been up to.”

“Sounds right good ta me, girly!” She moved towards the exit of the tent so she could start a fire in the fire pit. She turned to Death, “Do ya have any dried leaves left for a brew?” she asked.

“Been savin ‘em for a rainy day.” She rushed off to grab the tea leaves, and she came back right quick. “Hope their alright still,” the ladyjoy said as she handed them to her officer in command. “I’m gonna make them cookies now.” The Kid rushed off the kitchen and began the wondrous process of making delicious sweets with science!

Haf smiled, following Death to supervise in the making of the treats of cookie goodness. Nothing seems to have changed much, but me. “Anything I can do to help?”

“Well, since I took care of his dumb ass after he was in pieces, I think it would only be fair,” she laughed. “We found this new kid, a total nut case, and not quit a kid. Goes by Rag RoadRash, Rag fer short. He’d gotten into an accident on his motor bike, but I fixed him up and when he came to, he started asking question about everyone. I mentioned you, Haf and he kept coming back to ya.” Recalling all the details were simple and yet, they hurt to talk about. She was about to lose both of them because of the connection they shared. “So I kept talking you up, in case he thought you was somethin’ sweet or whatthefuckever. I told him about the stories you used to tell us about your brother, and how ya always counted him fer dead… That’s when he freaked out. Called ya Lou, and… Well…” She wanted to break this to her the easiest way possible. “I think he’s your brother, babe.” Shit, that wasn’t easy at all.

Haf laughed, “Nice joke guys, you really got me with that one.” She laughed lightly, but stopped when she saw the seriousness on their faces. No. Impossible. “There is no way it could be him.” Haf frowned, suddenly becoming very interested in her feet. After all these years. He was alive? No, it had to be somebody else. It had to. But, nobody else knew about-Lou.

“Listen, I hardly know the kid. I got back last night and he was here. I mean, I knew of him, but… look the point is Death would know. He’s here. You can find out for yourself when you’re ready. I mean, what’s the worst that can happen?” She tried to joke it off. “It’s not him?”

Death shot Shiny a “shut up, this ain’t funny look” and turned back to Haf. “Honestly doll, I wouldn’t have said anythin’ if I wasn’t sure. Death was surprised by the homecoming of the baby killjoy and one her best friends. She emerged from the “kitchen” and welcomed her with a tight squeeze and a kiss. “Hey bitch, good to see you in one piece. Let me look atcha.” She took a step back and spread the girls arms out gave her the once over. “It hasn’t been too long and yet, you look older. What happened to ya baby?”

Haf smiled and sighed out, “Alot. I’ll have to tell you after I recharge my batteries or at least get off my heels.” She, then paused, looking back and forth between her two best friends. “Damn, I missed you both.” She lunged forward, grabbing them both, pulling them into a group hug. “It feels so good to be home.” She then back away, with a smile that seemed like it would split her face. She turned her attention back to Shiny, “So, what were you so smug as a bug in a rug about before Death saved your ass by stepping in to distract me?”

Shiny’s smug grin returned to her face. “I was just gonna tell you what the cat dragged in while you and me were both away. Unless Death would rather do the honors?”

“Well, since I took care of his dumb ass after he was in pieces, I think it would only be fair,” she laughed. “We found this new kid, a total nut case, and not quit a kid.

Haf, who was never fond of showing a lot of emotion in front of people (a common killjoy atribute she inherited through Death), found herself weeping openly into Shiny’s shoulder. She had a huge smile plastered on her face, as she hugging the taller, older female into suffication. She mumbled out words inbetween her choked sobs of joy, but they were all lost in the excited air all except one key phrase, “I missed you all so much!” A scouting mission had never taking as great an effect on Haf as this one. Normally she would return home after a few days, and at the worst her dreams that night would be nightmares of deaths throughout the years coming back to haunt her. She always felt so safe around Shiny, even though she was only about a year or so older than her, Shiny was her replacement mother/father/……brother. Haf eventually relinquished her death grip on the other Heartbraker and, with a smile framed by tear burnt cheeks, asked, “Who’s all here? What is going up fast than a rocket? What did I miss, for the love of a ghosted Drac?!”

She gave Haf one last squeeze the backed up a bit. “I’ve missed you more-n the sand misses the sun at night! I just got back myself, and I brought a Tox with me. And… someone else was here when I got back.” She gave a mischievous smirk.

Haf cocked her head to the side in question, but was interrupted when the sound of someone walking towards them from the kitchen hit here eardrums. “DEATH!”

The sound of her boots filled her ears as they crunched on the sand and dirt under her aching feet. She was tired. She was sore. And most of all, she was lonely. She looked to the rain clouds over the last few days, letting them lead her home. She missed everyone so much. She felt broken.Jackson.She had made a promise to herself to never open up, to never ever accidentally or purposefully give her heart to someone. She didn’t know what she was feeling right now, but she did know that 1) She had broken her promise. 2) He was important. 3) And she NEEDED to talk to someone with more experience in matters such as these. It had been a long scouting mission, looking for water, food, batteries, fuel, people, anything. She wanted to sleep for a month or a year now. She missed her small collecting of blankets that was her bed. She missed sleeping with Shiny or Death if it was cold outside. She missed talking with them in the mornings over a bowl of whatever they had that day. She missed the Heartbraker Boys. She missed her family. Family. he last time she refered to anybody as family was when her brother was still around. Could it have been six years since she last saw him? She was completely convinced he was dead now. Ghosted somewhere out in the zones. She never told anybody, but she always looking for one thing constantly on her scouting trips, his body or bones. She hated to admit it, but she needed her brother back even if it was in the form of a corpse. Her head was pounding from a strong headache due to over exhausting herself, when she saw the trees. Pine. It wouldn’t be long now. She straightened the sleeves of her shirt to cover her cold wrists, trying to protect them from the wind. It was almost winter. She noticed the light frost on some of the dead branches of the sweet smelling trees. Wow. She had been gone for a long time and the pre-snow reminded her of that fact. She began to frown at the cold nights waiting for her, but her face light up into a smile faster than you could say Red-Round-Ruffle-Jacks. She could see it! She saw the small tents and shacks, they were at least a mile away, but she dropped her pride of a smooth “What, missed me?” walk in and ran as fast as her tired legs could carry her. She ran, the cold stinging her eyes, making them water. She ran until she reached the main shack/tent. She stopped a moment to admire the fact that she was back at camp. Finally. She walked in and nearly broke everyone’s eardrums with her hyper voice, filled to explosion with contained happiness, “DEATH! SHINY! EVERYONE! I”M HOME!!!!!”

As luck would have it, Shiny had just gotten back from her scouting mission (which had been in the opposite direction) the night before. It had been an interesting reunion: her with Rag and Death with Toxic. The fiery blonde had hit him over the head, despite Shiny’s protests that he was injured. Shiny had lost no time in making fun of RagRoadRash for actually living up to his name. After leaving Death to look after Toxic (given that Death was the new Medic in Blitz’s absence) she’d gone back to the main tent where she’d bundled up and slept the night away.

Now she was being awoken by a familiar voice, and it took her a second to register who it was. She raised her head sleepily. “Haf?” No, it couldn’t be. She rubbed her eyes and messed up her newly pixie-cut hair before stumbling out of her “nest” and towards the main section of the tent. It took her a moment to process what her eyes were telling her. “Haf!!” She ran towards the younger girl and wrapped her arms around her excitedly. The whole family was nearly back together now! “You’re back!!”

Day 34

STORYTIME! Gather around the fire kiddies cuz’ Haf is going to tell you a lovely story of love found, love lost, rebellion, and most importantly EX-FUCKING-PLOSIONS! So, there I was, just after finishing up my last transM, being chased by a group of five Dracs. They had their blasters pulled out and were trying to get me in the legs. They were purposefully keeping me alive; I had listened in on their trans lines the previous night, and the leader of this little raggedy ass band specifically told them to bring me in in one piece. Well, anyway, one of them shot me in the lower portion of my left calf. Needless to say I was PISSED. That is my favorite calf! Haha. But in all seriousness, I was officially grounded. I hit the dirt, literally. So, I sat up and took the ash licker out with a pair of my sharps. Right across the throat. He started bleeding out faster than a blood bank, but I wasn’t done with him. I quickly reeled back in my sharps, thank you attached rope, and lassoed the poor Vamps head. Then, my lovelies, with a good tug his neck bones made a crunch and the sad calf duster fell to his demolition day. However, with my leg ruined, the Dracs had the upper hand. I was surrounded shortly after their buddy felt my wrath. One of them took out a stun-gun and everything went black for me. I awoke in a white-washed room, and I was tied to a bed. There were a junk-ton of different pipes and tubes attached to my blood stream, and at least a thousand different drugs in viles on the table next to me. And, my leg was fixed. Aparently, they decided that leaving my leg in its previous condition would have been mean or something, idiots. Then, I met the doctor, who was the captain, he explained to me that they wanted me alive to use as their little test monkey. I was having none of that shit, but I remained silent listening to the Bat-Bitch talk on and on about a better future through his scientific experimentations. This white-coat ass was crazier then a bag full of cats. So, eventually he left, THANK YOU, and his Drac waltzed in. I could tell from the get go that he was angry and that I made him so. So, he walked up, pulled up a chair, sat down, lifted his hand, and slapped me. He was pretty strong cuz’ I can already feel the blue and purple bitch that shall be my best friend for the next few weeks. He then proceeded to curse my mother for ever having me. After he calmed down he explained that the Drac I ghosted was his little brother……Honestly I don’t like dusting people. My least favorite thing to do. What helps is believing that they aren’t human beings…..So, I apologized. He was extremely surprised, and asked me why. I don’t know what it was about him, but his voice seemed….trustable? I told him how I real feel about what I did to his brother. He told me that he didn’t blame me, I was only trying to protect myself, besides he hated his brother with a burning passion greater than that of a thousand white hot buring suns. We ended up talking for hours about each others lives. I told him about my family and history, minus my personal stuff and the Boys, and he told me about his life as a Drac. He eventually removed his Drac mask and DAMN. This guy mades brakes on a downhill run seem like Alaska in winter. He asked for my name. I told him that I was called Haf by my friends, but I told him nothing else. He said that his name was Scarecrow Operative #397, but his birth name was Jackson A.K.A Jack. I proceeded to call him Son. Haha. He apologized for the fact that I was going to be ghosted in a few hours, and I said that, “I wouldn’t be so fast to trust the Bat-Bitches if I were you.” He looked confused for a second, but then the world went black for him. I am sorry that I had to knock that oiltastic ass out like a light, but HEY I got places to be and people to see. I then broke out of my restraints, which were only a pair of ripped bed sheets, and removed the drugs from my arms. Thats when the fun began. I had previously cut all the feeds going of the building, so they could niether see nor hear me. I ran as fast as my legs could carry me, and made it to the power room. Chick Ching, Jackpot. The entire building ran off of nuclear power. I took out my case of modified, slow-reacting hafnium powder out, unscrewed the lid, and covered the nuclear reactors in the powder until it looked like a sandstorm had hit. I now had exactly five minutes to get the fuck out of there unless I wanted ot be dusted, but there turned out to be a problem. He was not in the equation, and I knew what he was, but I did it anyway and I don’t know why. I ran back to my white-washed room, lifted Jack onto my back, and booked it. I ran out the door of the building, and didn’t stop running until the blast came. It was so huge that it knock me straight off my feet. I tumble-rolled head over heels and landed on top of Jack. I covered my both of our heads with my arms to protect from the pieces of Bat-Bitch building flying at us. I completed my mission. The Water Reserve is gone. And now I’m heading back to camp as we speak…..What happened to Jack you say? Well, that is a story for another time. Let’s just say that we both promised to keep running, but in our own directions. Maybe one day I’ll see him again…..One Day……Anyway, YEEHAW MOTHERFUCKERS!

Day 33 (Night TransM) Time: Does it really matter.

*static* Location *static* Zone 6 *loud buzz/screech* At the Battery City owned Water Reserve #203 *sound of turning knobs and a rustling of some kind* There. That should fix the static for a few. …… I’ve taken care of the Dracs that had the unfortunate job of attempting to dust me. I’m not off radar yet, but that is my plan. My plan? Oh, right my plan! *static* Well, you see I am not a fan of running away without a fight, one of my many oiltastic flaws. And, you see here I was, running from the Vamps, and I thought to myself, “Wait. Here I am running from some Bat-Bitches when I got a pair of sharps on me.” *static* -then I remembered my supply of Power Powder. *yelling in the distance and alarms* Sweet car shift butts! Sorry babies and burns, I got places to be and people to ghost. Lets just say…….I’M GOING TO BLOW THIS MOTHERFUCKER SKY HIGH! SEE YA ON THE FLIP SIDE! *static with a slight background of blaster fire and someone screaming, “YeeHAW!” *
